Personality to be trained<\/div><\/div> \u3000In addition to theoretical research and education in various fields of mathematical sciences such as algebra, geometry, and analysis, the department also provides education in probability, statistics, and data-related subjects for career paths such as teaching, finance, and insurance, aiming to foster educators, information technicians, and business people with excellent logical thinking and data analysis skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Course features<\/div><\/div> \u3000In the first year of the Mathematical Sciences Course, the Department of Mathematical Sciences offers Applied Calculus and Applied Linear Algebra as elective courses to deepen students’ understanding of the content of Calculus I and Linear Algebra I, which are common undergraduate specialized courses, and Calculus II and Linear Algebra II, which are specialized courses for all courses in the same category. These courses are based on a problem-solving learning method and are intended to cultivate the ability to apply theorems and formulas in practical situations, as well as to improve presentation skills through the presentation of solutions by students.
\u3000From the second year onward, specialized courses are arranged in a systematic and sequential manner.
In the second year, required courses provide students with the terminology, methods of expression, and basic concepts necessary for any field of mathematical science.
\u3000In the third year, elective courses are offered to deepen students’ understanding of algebra, geometry, and analysis based on the major specialized courses offered prior to the first year, and to develop problem-solving skills through the associated seminar courses. In addition, probability, statistics, and data-related courses are also included, which are necessary for students who plan to pursue careers in teaching, finance, and insurance.
\u3000 In the fourth-year graduation project, students are required to select a field of mathematics they have studied up to the third year in which they have developed a particular interest and explore a specific theme in a small group setting over the course of one year. Students play a central role as readers, and faculty members provide necessary supplemental information and advice as needed. The students will eventually complete their studies to the extent that they will be able to present their research at the graduation research presentation and participate in a question-and-answer session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Enrolled Students<\/div><\/div> Details of the courses will be introduced in the second semester of the first year in the course “Applied Mathematical Sciences,” which is a special subject common to all courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
